Peace from within

Easter week marked African Enterprise’s Peace & Reconciliation Seminar, a much anticipated event in the region of Juba, South ImageSudan. Recent violence has pitted neighbor against neighbor and displaced thousands. The South Sudanese people are burdened and traumatized. Heavy laden with fear and guilt and overwhelmed with feelings of revenge and injustice.
The two day event began on April 17th with the goal of teaching people who had been affected by the violence how to live peaceably, forgive and seek reconciliation with their fellow countrymen and women. Counseling sessions were also made available to those most impacted by the violence.
The well attended event included many senior military officials, government officials, police officers and their chaplains. A peace and reconciliation workshop was held as well as a special session for university students and young people. The young people were challenged to live victorious lives in a complex and unpredictable society.
Local church leaders were also challenged on the need to abide to biblical values even in difficult times like this. They spoke about tolerance and leadership from a Christian point of view as well as the strategic role of church leaders in promoting peace & reconciliation.

“I am now conscious that peace can only start within me”

ImageDue to the ongoing conflict, both the national and state parliaments were on recess. Nevertheless the AE Team, through the state parliament speaker, gathered a group of local politicians to discuss different issues affecting the nation. They began with a prayer and Dr Stephen Mbogo spoke on the need for tolerance and faith in God using the book of Daniel in resolving South Sudan’s current challenges. He also shared AE’s experience in the area of peace and reconciliation in South Africa.
The nation has been deeply marred by the acts of violence that have taken place. Please join with AE in prayer for the nation of South Sudan and the ongoing violence. Pray for peace and reconciliation among its people and that God would bring healing to their hearts and lives and consider partnering with AE financially to further the work AE is doing in Africa through similar projects.

Here’s what some of the attendee’s had to say!
“Thank you African Enterprise for this workshop. I am now conscious that peace can only start within me. As church leaders we will also go into our congregations to share this wonderful message.”
-Pastor Manesi

“I now understand that we as youth should not get involved in the conflict between Nuers and Dinkas, and we will now go out and share these teachings with our communities. Thank you African Enterprise.”
